As a classroom teacher, one of the things I looked forward to most was freshening up my classroom decor each year to welcome my students back to school! I believe it is the classroom decor that makes students, parents, colleagues, or anyone else for that matter, feel welcomed the second they enter your classroom. So, after spending hours preparing for my students and the upcoming school year, I wanted them to absolutely fall in LOVE with their classroom. Honestly, decorating my classroom each year is sorta what recharged me as the days of my summer vacation would come to a screeching halt! I mean, let’s face it… teachers spend more waking hours at school than they do their own living room, so we need to LOVE our space, right?
In this blog post, I want to share a few benefits of owning your own classroom decor bundle. You truly can have a design on a dime!
1. Uniqueness
No doubt, your classroom will be set apart from any other teachers’ classroom on your school campus. How can I confidently say that? These bundles can’t be purchased from an online school supply website or in any school supply store! Each bundle is different, unique, and designed with the highest quality clip art, fonts, and digital backgrounds from some of the most talented artists found on Etsy and Teachers Pay Teachers. I love how Mrs. Sinagra created her Growth Mindset and Class Rules bulletin boards using the Beach Themed, Teaching in the Tropics, Classroom Decor bundle.
2. Editable
Editable classroom decor bundles are perfect for customizing to fit your specific needs. Each classroom decor bundle includes all the editable files for you to personalize your bulletin boards, anchor charts, bin labels, etc. Mrs. McCallister, a 2nd grade teacher, added her own titles to the burlap and shiplap bunting from the Shabby Chic Farmhouse Collection. She also loved that she was able to print the banners to the exact size she needed to fit her bulletin board space! I loved how she added the ribbon to string the banners too! Mrs. Malone teaches in a bilingual classroom. She used the editable files from The Cottage Collection to add the Spanish words and titles she needed for her classroom.
3. Cost Efficient
If you have ever found yourself having JUST enough desk tags until your principal walks a new student to your room, you know the frustration… YEP! That calls for a trip to the school supply store after school to buy an entire package of desk tags when you only need ONE! Another advantage of owning your own classroom decor bundle is you can print exactly what you need without having to make that trip or having to wait several days for the online store to ship them to you. You simply print off ONE desk tag from your files, and voila, you are set!
Another example I have personally experienced (in which I thought I would lose my mind) was when one of my calendar toppers fell behind my dry erase board. Yep, you guessed it… After school, I had to make a trip to the store to buy an entire pack of calendar toppers just for that ONE month, and then, what good were the other 11 months! Therefore, if I had owned my own classroom decor bundle, I could have easily printed off just the month I needed, and BOOM… I could have saved that money!
4. Resizable
Before you print the files, you can decide if you want to make them larger or smaller to fit your space. Adjusting the size will not cause any resolution to be lost since these are PDF files. As you can see in the image below, Mrs. Malone printed her calendar to fit her board space.
I’ve downloaded my classroom decor, now what?
After deciding on your classroom decor bundle, now what? It’s easy…
- After you download the bundle, save the files to a flash drive. (You can also email the files, but I recommend taking the flash drive to the store so you can talk to the employee before they print in case you want to make specific requests.)
- Take the flash drive to your local office supply store. (Remember to bring coupons with you or ask for educational discounts!)
- Print on card stock. (When I decorated my classroom, Office Depot printed my files on card stock for ten cents a copy!)
- I wouldn’t print any files I didn’t need. Ex. Because you may only need the cursive ABC banner, you would not want to print the primary ABC banner.
- Save your receipt for tax purposes or if your school district allots you monies for supplies.
- Cut out your printed items.
- Once you have cut out your files, you are ready to laminate. I know this may seem like twice the cutting, but I prefer not to cut the seal on my lamination.
- Boom! You are ready to decorate with a design on a dime!
